This rectangular Swati art tray uses a soft dove-grey ground, an unusual choice in a craft dominated by deep blues and reds, and pairs it with saffron, crimson, and ivory motifs. A circular medallion of radiating saffron and crimson leaves fills the centre, and slim vertical panels of saffron scrollwork flank it on both sides. The muted base makes this the most neutral tray in the collection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is grey a traditional Swati colour?
It is a modern addition. Swati workshops began mixing muted grounds such as grey, sand, and powder blue for export buyers who wanted the traditional motif vocabulary in a palette that suits contemporary interiors. The motifs and technique are unchanged.
Which colours does this tray coordinate with?
The grey ground works with white, black, brushed steel, and pale wood, and the saffron and crimson motifs pick up warm accents such as brass, terracotta, and rust textiles.
Does the lighter ground show stains more easily?
The sealed gloss coat is non-porous, so tea, coffee, and oil sit on the surface rather than soaking in. Wipe spills promptly and the grey stays clean.
What is the black outlining for?
Black liner work is drawn around each petal and stem to separate the motif from the ground. On pale grounds like this one it does the job that gold outlining does on dark grounds.
