Frequently Asked Questions
Is coral pink a traditional Swati colour?
The motifs and technique are traditional; the ground colour is a modern addition. Swati workshops mix new ground colours to order while keeping the drawing, layering, and outlining unchanged, which is how pinks, greys, and powder blues entered the palette.
Does it make a good gift?
The pink colourway is the most requested of the five as a gift, particularly paired with one of the small 8x12 trays in a matching or contrasting ground.
How long does the hand-painting take?
A fully decorated mug of this type takes a Swati artisan several hours across multiple sessions, since each colour layer has to dry before the outlining and dot work can go on top.
Will the pink fade?
Kept out of prolonged direct sunlight and washed by hand, the colour is stable. Dishwasher cycles are the fastest way to dull any of these hand-painted grounds.
