The only ashtray in this group that uses red. Cobalt ground, white palmettes, and a red center dropped into each flower. Red is difficult in Multani work because it burns out if the kiln runs hot, which is why you see it less often than blue.
Yes. The rim is pinched into rests that take a standard cigarette or an incense stick without it rolling off.
It sits under the clear glaze, so it will not fade with use. Keep it out of a window that gets full afternoon sun for years on end and it stays as it arrived.
No. It is fired well above anything a cigarette produces. What does damage these is dropping them on tile, so keep it on a desk rather than a ledge.
The glaze is lead-free, so a few olives or pistachio shells are fine. Once it has been used as an ashtray, keep it as one.
