This 6-inch canister jar carries a more traditional Multani layout than our trellis and floral jars: the body is built in bands. A ring of blue floral medallions sits near the top, then a narrow striped band, then a border of pointed leaf shapes, then a second floral band lower down. The domed lid picks up the same blue and white palette in a radiating panel pattern, topped with a rounded cobalt knob.

Design Details

  • Hand-painted in cobalt blue on a white ground, using natural mineral pigments
  • Two floral medallion bands separated by a striped band and a leaf border band
  • Domed ceramic lid with radiating panel pattern and a rounded blue knob
  • Smooth, high-gloss, lead-free glaze finish

Specifications

  • Dimensions: 6 inches (15.2 cm) height x 4 inches (10.2 cm) diameter
  • Material: Mold-cast ceramic clay with lead-free glaze
  • Finish: Hand-painted layered floral and leaf-band pattern in cobalt blue and white
  • Use: Kitchen storage for spices, tea, herbs, coffee beans or dry goods; also works as a standalone decorative piece
  • Care: Hand wash gently or wipe with a damp cloth. Skip the abrasive scrubbers, they'll dull the glaze.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much can this canister hold?

The 4-inch opening fits ground spices, loose tea, whole coffee beans, or dried herbs easily. At 6 inches tall, it holds roughly 2 to 3 cups of dry goods.

Does the lid keep the jar airtight?

The ceramic lid sits in a snug fitted groove, close enough to keep out humidity and slow spices going stale. It isn't a rubber-gasket seal like a mason jar, so don't use it for liquids.

Why does the pattern have so many bands instead of one repeating design?

This is a more traditional layout in Multani blue pottery, where the artisan builds the pattern in horizontal registers rather than one motif repeated top to bottom. It takes longer to paint than a single repeating pattern.

Is this jar only for the kitchen, or can I use it as decor?

Plenty of customers buy this design to sit on a shelf or console table on its own. It holds spices or tea just as well if you want it to earn its keep too.

How do I clean it?

Hand wash with mild soap and warm water, or wipe with a damp cloth. Skip the dishwasher and abrasive scrubbers, since they can dull the glaze over time.

Handcrafted in Multan, Pakistan. Since every jar is hand-painted, the exact spacing of the floral bands will vary slightly from jar to jar. That's normal for handmade blue pottery, not a defect.
